Bad news for the San Francisco 49ers over Elijah Mitchell's injury
Not good news for the 49ers.
At the start of the 2nd quarter on Sunday, 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell had to leave the game following an injury; he was tackled straight in the legs by Bears safety Eddie Jackson.
While at the time the injury seemed uncertain, 49ers writer for The Athletic Matt Barrows reported that it was later confirmed by head coach Kyle Shanahan. A sprained MCL that will keep him out of the game for at least 8 weeks, meaning he won't be back until November 13. Thankfully, Shanahan confirmed that the rookie will not need surgery.
"He was pretty down. For obvious reasons, we're down for him. Elijah went through a lot last year, it's well documented the injuries he had. He really worked hard this offseason. He was feeling really good going into that game and man, I thought he looked really good before he got hurt. And just unfortunate hit that he had. I just tried to tell him to keep his head up. Anybody who would have gotten caught in that situation would have gotten hurt with the way his foot planted in the ground and the guy hit his knee. I think we were just real fortunate it wasn't worse."

The loss of Mitchell could break the synergy he had on the field with QB Trey Lance and Deebo Samuel. It is the young Jeff Wilson who should take his spot.
49ers lost to the Bears on a flood field in Chicago 10-19.
