Emmitt Smith in tears after death of Larry Allen

The Cowboys are in mourning after the passing of Larry Allen.

The Dallas Cowboys are in mourning after the sudden passing of Hall of Famer Larry Allen, who died at the age of 52 unexpectedly while on vacation in Mexico with his family. 

The news was made official by the Cowboys social media account, which reported the following: 

"The Dallas Cowboys are very saddened to share that Cowboys legend, Super Bowl Champion, Cowboys Ring of Honor member and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico with his family on Sunday.

“Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players, defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner.”

And as tributes continue to pour in, one particular former teammate of Allen's is taking the news of his passing hard. Fellow Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith was in tears while recording a video of his reaction to the tragic passing. 

"I'm at a loss for words ... such a good dude, great player, super person,"Smith said. 

"It breaks my heart,'' Emmitt said. "The one thing about Larry Allen I know: He had a very big heart. .... a man of very few words but who on the football field was a beast.''

It's clear that Allen's death has had a profound effect on his former teammates, indicating how well liked he was as well as underscoring the incredible impact he had not only on the Cowboys but on the football community.
