Mike McCarthy reveals how long Jerry Jones wants him in Dallas

Well, that's interesting.

The season for the Dallas Cowboys once again ends prematurely at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, and they're heading into another offseason of uncertainty. There are several high profile free agents on the roster who may not be back for next season, while the coaching staff has already seen a major shakeup with the departure of several faces.

However, head coach Mike McCarthy isn't going anywhere, and in his now words, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones doesn't want him to go anywhere - apparently, for a very long time.

According to McCarthy, Jones has told him that he'd like him to stay in his role as Cowboys head coach as long as the legendary Tom Landry was in his role - 29 seasons.

"As far as my relationship with Jerry . . . we are in an excellent spot. The partnership that we have, he's excited about," McCarthy said Thursday, via USA Today. "He told me a number of times this week that he wants me to coach here as long as coach (Tom) Landry did. I said, 'OK, that's a long time.' I feel really good about our relationship. I think our ability to discuss and disagree, we do a good job at that. I think that's important."

As you may remember, it was Jones who fired Landry not long after he bought the team in 1988. He would hire Jimmy Johnson in his place, who would go on to win two Super Bowls in the mid 1990's.

Cowboys fans, how would you like to see McCarthy as the Cowboys head coach for the next quarter century? While that's extremely unlikely, it sure sounds as though he'll be here for quite a long time if Jones has anything to do with it.
