He didn't hold back after the brutal loss.

There was not much that went according to plan for the Dallas Cowboys yesterday against the rival San Francisco 49ers, as they were taken to the woodshed by their hosts by a 42-10 final score. The division leading 49ers now have firm control of the NFC North Division with a perfect 5-0 record, while the Cowboys fell to 3-2.

Head coach Mike McCarthy didn't mince words following the loss, calling it a "kick in the ass" that was extremely humbling for him and the rest of the team.

"It's a punch in the gut," said McCarthy. "It's a kick in the ass — whatever phrase you wanna put on it. You look at how this season has gone. We've been knocked down.

"They beat us in all three phases and we've got to acknowledge it. I'm not a burn-the-tape guy. I think that's a crock of shi-t. We're going to go through it and make sure we're clear on exactly what the expectations are.

" … I didn't see this coming. … We did not hit the mark at all today. Me, everybody, I don't see a whole lot of winning grades coming out of this performance. The important thing for all of us is to be accountable."

The Cowboys certainly have been inconsistent in 2023, having won their first two games and looking like word beaters, only to drop two of their next three. The good news is that McCarthy plans on holding the team accountable for their performances, and that can only bode well as they move forward.

The Cowboys will be taking on the Los Angeles Chargers next week at SoFi Stadium before coming back home to face the Los Angeles Rams at AT&T Stadium. Can Dallas bounce back from yesterday's disappointing loss?
