By now, you've heard the news that the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to part ways with maligned offensive coordinator Matt Canada. And ironically, they posted 400 yards of offense in their first game since the change after having not done so on a single occasion under Canada.

But according to Pro Football Network's Adam Caplan, it was the lack of development for quarterback Kenny Pickett that was the real reason behind the termination.

"Pro Football Network talked to multiple league sources who have graded the Steelers’ offensive tape this season and cited the following issues with Canada’s offensive scheme: too many college concepts, poor spacing created, lack of an intermediate passing game, and lack of identity," Caplan wrote.

"But even with those issues, the biggest problem was the lack of development from second-year QB Kenny Pickett, who team sources said had 'an outstanding offseason.'"

It sounds as though the Steelers decided that the regression of Pickett was the last straw under Canada, and made the move in order to protect their valuable young asset.
