Report: Steelers could trade Mason Rudolph to NFC North

Could you see this actually going down?

The Football Feed

With the Pittsburgh Steelers preparing for their first full season without the services of recently retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the coaching staff and management has a key decision to make as to who will be starting under center for them in 2022. And with Kenny Pickett emerging as the potential starter, that could make veteran Mason Rudolph expendable.

According to Pittsburgh radio host Andrew Fillipponi, one potential destination for Rudolph is the Motor City, the home of the Detroit Lions.

"A former NFL GM told me he thinks Mason Rudolph could be traded to the Lions by the end of the week," he wrote on Twitter.

The Lions are set at the starters position with Jared Goff about to begin his second year in Detroit after being acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in the blockbuster Matthew Stafford trade, but their options at backup are rather underwhelming. Neither Tim Boyle nor David Blough are exactly setting the world on fire, and Rudolph could be an intriguing option for Detroit general manager Brad Holmes to consider.

So far in his NFL career, Rudolph has thrown for 2,366 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over four seasons.
