Oh, what could have been.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is on top of the world right now as one of the NFL's best at his position, having just captured his second Super Bowl win of his career. Oh, and there's the fact that he's also the significant other of Taylor Swift, perhaps the most famous pop star in the world.

But there was a time during his respective NFL Scouting Combine that he met with the Dallas Cowboys, and in his words, completely botched it since he clearly did not like being asked about his past mistakes.

"It ended really fast," Kelce said of his meeting with the Cowboys during an episode of the "New Heights" podcast.

“I basically just said, ‘If you guys think I’m gonna be that kind of guy or you’re questioning if I’m still that person after everything that I’ve battled through to get to where I am now from missing a season, then you guys can probably go somewhere else and pick somebody else,’” Kelce said. “That’s exactly what they did.”

Kelce had been suspended from the University of Cincinnati for marijuana usage in 2010, though he was later able to re-earn his roster spot.

With their pick, the Cowboys would eventually select the late Gavin Escobar (Round 2, 47th overall) from San Diego State, who tragically lost his life in a 2022 rock climbing accident.

Did the Cowboys make a mistake by passing over Kelce thanks to his past personal mistake during his collegiate days?
