Chicago Bears president and CEO makes major announcement

Big news out of the Windy City

Michael W.

It's a new era in the Windy City as far as the Chicago Bears are concerned.

Team president and CEO Ted Phillips has officially announced that he'll be stepping down at the end of this season next February. He's been in his current role the last 23 years, and with the organization for the last 39 years.

“When COVID came, it changed a lot of dynamics and gave me some time to reflect on my life, my work life,” Phillips said in an exclusive interview with The Athletic. “I came to the conclusion that, my gosh, almost 40 years is a long time. It’s time to hand over the baton and give myself the gift of time. You know how this business can be, a lot of hours and time away from family. I just turned 65 years old. I feel good. My health is good. I felt it was time to slow down and do whatever I want to do.”

Among the biggest accomplishments for Phillips include the renovation of Soldier Field.

"Ted accomplished what George Halas and Mike McCaskey could not do for decades," said Bears chairman George H. McCaskey. "He navigated difficult political waters with the city, the park district, the state, the governor's office, various constituencies, ownership, staff and football operations."
