Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow went under the knife earlier this week, undergoing an appendectomy, and has naturally been unable to practice with his teammates at training camp since then.

“The good news is he’s got two years in [the system],” Coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday of Burrow, 25, who underwent the procedure Tuesday. “… He’ll still have his iPad. He’ll still follow whenever he’s in meetings. We don’t expect him to miss a step, mentally, that way. I’m sure he’d love to have all the physical reps he could possibly get, but he won’t be behind the eight ball at all, based on what’s happened.”

“The timeline is obviously to be determined,” the explained. “But, again, everything went smoothly.”

Last season, Burrow led the NFL in completion percentage (70.4) and yards per attempt (8.9). He also went into the team record books by setting the new franchise records for passing yards (4,611), passing touchdowns (34) and passer rating (108.3). He helped lead the Bengals to the Super Bowl, where they were felled by Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.

He'll be eligible for negotiations for a new contract after the season.
