The Dallas Cowboys are welcoming back Dak Prescott for this weekend's matchup against the struggling Detroit Lions, and their weaker opponent could be the perfect reintroduction to the game for their franchise quarterback.

Prescott was felled in Week 1 after suffering a hand injury, subsequently requiring surgery. In his absence, Cooper Rush led the Cowboys to four straight victories before finally dropping last weekend's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

And according to head coach Mike McCarthy, there will be two major obstacles standing in Prescott's way as he makes his return to action for the first time in several weeks.

“Rhythm and timing,” McCarthy said. “That’s the biggest thing, and it’s a challenge to grab that in this short a period of time. There’s no question, but really putting a ceiling on the workload is important, because Lord knows he’d throw a 140 (passes on Wednesday) if you let him.”

According to team OC Kellen Moore, there's no issue with Prescott's motivation, and he's gearing up to go.

“Dak’s as motivated of a person as we’re ever going to meet in life,” offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said. “We’ll just have to go through this thing the right way, and we’ll see where it takes us day by day.”

The Cowboys take on the Lions at AT&T Stadium at 1:00 PM EST.
