Controversial clause removed from Kyler Murray's monster contract

The controversial clause is now gone.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray got absolutely paid earlier this week, agreeing to a mammoth extension worth $230.5 million.

However, fans were quick to notice an unusual clause in the deal that required Murray to complete least four hours per week of in-season independent study. However, that clause has now been ditched, and not long after the quarterback himself called it "disrespectful" to assume that he doesn't put in enough work.

“After seeing the distraction it created, we removed the addendum from the contract,” the team said in a statement. “It was clearly perceived in ways that were never intended. Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it’s ever been and nothing demonstrates our belief in his ability to lead this team more than the commitment reflected in this contract.”

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sounded off on the clause in Murray's contract, saying that it certainly took him by surprise.

"I think I just raised my eyebrows up like this," Rodgers said while demonstrating. "That was the reaction. Yeah, I was happy to see him get paid. One thing I did see was I think his average salary per year was about on par with the salary cap of the Oakland Athletics, so I think he can definitely smile knowing he made the right choice."
