Deshaun Watson to lose shocking amount of cash during suspension

He'll lose HOW much?

Michael W.

The Cleveland Browns will be without quarterback Deshaun Watson for the first six games of the upcoming 2022 NFL season, as he was suspended officially this morning by the NFL and NFL Players Association's jointly appointed disciplinary officer, Sue L. Robinson.

Now fans will remember that he was signed to a massive five year, $230 million deal by the Browns after his acquisition from the Houston Texans - but his suspension will result in his losing not even 0.25% of the deal. In fact, with the $330,000 that he'll be forfeiting this season, he'll make $45.7 million of the $46 million he was slated to receive, meaning he loses only 0.14% of the contract.

His salary this year was structured to be $1,035,000, but he'll make the majority of his cash in the form of a signing bonus that can't be touched. In the meantime, every other year of his deal has a base salary of $46 million.

For just about any of the rest of us, losing out on $330,000 would be a major loss - but not for Watson.
