Discouraging prediction on Najee Harris' future with Steelers

Look away, Steelers fans!

Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers decided not to pick up the 5th year option of running back Najee Harris, and his future with the Steelers beyond this coming season appears potentially in doubt.

And that prediction was exacerbated by a noted member of the Steelers press. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo, this season will almost certainly be his last one with PIttsburgh.

“I know the Steelers kind of put out there that we want to see how he fits in Arthur Smith’s offense,” Fittipaldo said on Monday’s episode of the North Shore Drive Podcast. “We’re not closing the door on Najee being part of this team in the long term. But I don’t know about you, but when you decline the fifth-year option, I think it’s 90 to 95 percent sure that this is going to be Najee Harris’ last year with the Steelers.”

Harris showcased his durability and skill throughout the Steelers' 17 regular-season games last season, amassing an impressive 1,035 yards rushing. This marked his third consecutive season surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing milestone, accompanied by eight rushing touchdowns.

Currently, it's unclear how Harris will be integrated into new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's system. However, fans can anticipate a departure from the criticized approach under former OC Matt Canada.
