It looked as though former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was getting back into the coaching game when it was announced that not only was he a candidate for Stanford's head coaching role, but also said to be a serious candidate for the role.

However, in a move that has surprised many, he's decided to pull his hat out of the ring. He announced on Twitter:

"Thanks so much to AD Bernard Muir and everyone at Stanford!" he said in a statement on Twitter. "While I enjoyed exploring a great opportunity at such a special place, I’m so excited to continue my work at NBC on Football Night in America and with Notre Dame Football!"

Needless to say, whomever takes the role will have large shoes to fill of David Shaw, who led Stanford to two Rose Bowl and Sun Bowl victories apiece during his 12 years on the job. Meanwhile, Garrett appears content in his current role as an analyst.
