NFL history made during Steelers loss to 49ers

Not the kind of history the Steelers wanted.

Needless to say, the listless offensive performance by the Pittsburgh Steelers was not at all how they wanted to start the 2023 season, especially after last year's offensive woes culminated in plenty of voices calling for the termination of offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

The San Francisco 49ers dominated the host Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, winning by a 30-7 final score. And in doing so, there was a bit of NFL history made that the Steelers wanted no part of - especially in embarrassing fashion in front of a sold out home field.

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who threw a pair of touchdown passes in the victory, became the very first quarterback in NFL history to win each of his first six regular-season starts while also throwing at least a pair of touchdown passes in each game.

And if that wasn't enough, Purdy became the very first quarterback with a passer rating of 95 or higher in all six of his first starts in the regular season.

The 49ers now are gearing up to play the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium next Sunday, while the Steelers will look to rebound when they take on the Cleveland Browns.
