The Pittsburgh Steelers sent shockwaves throughout the National Football League earlier this afternoon when it was announced that they traded quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, meaning that Russell Wilson is now the main man under center for Pittsburgh for the upcoming 2024 season.

And now, we have more context as to why Pickett was traded. According to Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, it was due to not only Pickett's behavior near the end of the season, along with his reaction to the Steelers signing Wilson earlier in the week.

He wrote:

"The Steelers made the move because of the way Pickett was poorly handling the arrival of Russell Wilson, according to sources. That came on the heels of Pickett's behavior last season when he refused to dress as the emergency third quarterback in Seattle in Week 17."

Meanwhile, NFL writer Tom Pelissero had the following to say about the situation:

"Mike Tomlin had promised Kenny Pickett he’d get a chance to compete. Pickett learned about the Russell Wilson signing on social media Sunday night. When they spoke the next morning, Tomlin told Pickett that Wilson was in pole position and would get the first reps. So, Pickett asked for a trade. Now he’s an Eagle."

The Russell Wilson experience is now officially underway in Pittsburgh, and Pickett, who was once viewed as the quarterback of the future and the heir to Ben Rothlisberger, is now the backup to Jalen Hurts with the Eagles.
