Are Prescott's days in Dallas numbered?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering his final year of his current contract, and while team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made it clear that he wants Prescott with the Cowboys his entire career, there are others who think that Dallas could elect to go in another direction.

According to K.D. Drummond of USA Today, the Cowboys could be considering alternative options. He writes:

"The young guns won’t be the only alternative in 2025. There are a handful of veterans who could be available at that point as well. They may all feel like stopgaps, but there are a couple of potential “Matt Stafford” guys on the list, who may take the next step in a new environment.

I’ve spoken before how I feel that may be the case with Prescott, but perhaps a Dallas reset brings them that kind of fortune.

Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence are not likely leaving Green Bay or Jacksonville, respectively, but they are currently atop the list of 2025 free agent QBs (aside from Prescott). Tua Tagovailoa is on that list as well. Any of those three could see an extension in the next month, but perhaps they don’t.

Trey Lance, already in Dallas, is in a group of haven’t-yet-established guys along with Justin Fields who is now in Pittsburgh. What if Russell Wilson bounces back with the Steelers? He’s a free agent after next year as well.

Arizona’s Kyler Murray becomes tradeable in 2025 with a dead cap hit to the Cardinals of $33 million and $12 million of savings if traded, and he has no guarantee money remaining after that season for the acquiring club.”
