What on Earth was he thinking?

The New York Giants made the controversial decision to select RB Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, an especially puzzling move considering the fact that they were fresh off a 3-13 campaign and were certainly nowhere near ready to start competing for championships again.

And according to a newly released report, former Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, who will forever be cursed by Giants fans worldwide for his absolutely horrific tenure on the job, would not so much as even pick up the phone to receive a call from the Denver Broncos.

Denver reportedly wanted to move up in the Draft in order to select a quarterback, but their phone calls to Gettleman reportedly were completely ignored. Take a look at what NFL reporter Connor Hughes had to say:

"Asked Maccagnan this once. No way to answer. NYJ knew NYG were going Barkley & only Barkley. Only time MM got nervous was when Baker went 1. He knew Elway LOVED Darnold. Thought he’d offer moon & stars to NYG for 2.

Might have. Gettleman never answered phone. Just took Barkley."

Gettleman's tenure in New York was nothing short of an absolute dumpster fire, and this report certainly does nothing to change that.
