While the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be in the midst of negotiations with star linebacker Alex Highsmith, it looks as though there are a few other potential candidates that could be moved in order to free up some valuable salary cap space.

In the first place, Highsmith is coming off his best performance as an NFL player, racking up a League-high five forced fumbles along with 14.5 sacks. Right now, his market value is listed at $55.6 million over four years per Spotrac.

According to Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, Highsmith's name was included along with  tight end Zach Gentry and offensive guard Kevin Dotson as the top candidates to be moved by Steelers GM Omar Khan.

"While the Steelers tend to do a good job of keeping their own players, there's no guarantee that they can retain Highsmith if he reaches 2024 free agency. Pittsburgh is already projected to be $6.7 million over the cap next year. And Highsmith would undoubtedly bring a spicy trade package back if he's dealt to a pass-rusher-needy team. He's young, he's productive, and he's set to carry a cap hit of just under $3 million this season. Virtually any contender would be happy to land Highsmith, and a high Day-2 draft selection would likely be his value floor," Knox writes.

Just how big of a blow would it be to Pittsburgh if they were to move on from Highsmith or even Gentry and Dotson?
