Washington Commanders reportedly inquired about trading for Patrick Mahomes!

Talk about swinging for the fences!

The squad formerly known as the Washington Redskins changed their name from the Boston Braves to the Redskins before moving to the Washington D.C. area in 1937.

However, prior to last season, the decision was made to change their team name on the heels of pressure for a switch from the moniker that some found to be racially insensitive, especially during a time of renewed discussion and focus on social and racial justice - though the move wasn't well received by everyone.

Of course, they are now officially known as the Washington Commanders, a name that's drawn heavy criticism and mockery from fans and pundits alike. But you have to hand it to them - at least they swung for the fences, if this report is to be believed.

According to a report from ESPN, the Commanders actually contacted the Kansas City Chiefs to inquire as to the possibility of acquiring superstar former MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Yes, really. Take a look at the following from The Kansas City Star.

Washington reportedly is looking for a new starting quarterback, and ESPN’s John Keim took a deep dive on the search. There was one sentence that caught the eye of Chiefs fans. After detailing the struggles of the past four seasons, Keim wrote: “All of this is why, according to a source, Washington has reached out to every team to inquire about a quarterback’s availability and the cost. The team started its search with a list of 42 quarterbacks.”

Yes, all 31 teams were contacted, which means someone in Washington placed a call to the Chiefs to ask about Patrick Mahomes. On Twitter, Chiefs fans (and others, including at least one Washington supporter) had a fun time trying to imagine that conversation.

Hey, you have to shoot your shot, even if there's absolutely zero chance of succeeding.
